Austin, Texas is the Taco Capitol of the World. In fact, tacos are great anytime for breakfast, lunch or dinner!  In 2011, when true East Austinite Chris Rios became vegan, he was in search for the perfect vegan taco to satisfy his craving.

After 6 months of searching, no vegan taco was a match with what he grew up with in East Austin, so he started hosting Sunday Brunch vegan taco parties at his home. With a passion for tacos, Chris set out on a quest to create the most rockin’ vegan tacos for all. He started with his signature chipotle sauce, tofu scramble, vegan chorizo and the rest is history. From his iconic vegan breakfast tacos to queso and his signature sauces, in 2012 he created and opened the most authentic vegan tex-mex place that his business would become famous for: The Vegan Nom -Rockin Vegan Tacos.

Chris became vegan to save the environment, compassion for animals, and improve health.  His passion for good food and the environment built the brand now known today for their rockin’ vegan tacos. In 2012, it all started inside a 7x12 food trailer on North Loop, but after selling out in the first two hours opening day, he knew they needed a bigger space to serve the Austin community. In 2016, the Vegan Nom upgraded to the iconic 1970s airstream trailer and moved to Chris’ old stomping ground in East Austin. Vegan Nom now operates out of a new 2020 Food Trailer at Vegan Nom Food Park with their friendly neighbors: Nom Burgers, East Austin Coffee and Milky Way Shakes.

Today, the Vegan Nom has plenty of space and a rentable event area so neighbors and guests can host their events right in the heart of East Austin with food trucks on-site! Chris is so proud of how far they’ve come but this is only the beginning for Austin's own iconic rockin’ vegan brand.
